About the series

Cain begins the series stuck in a small town, listening to one internal voice narrate his life and another that has been silent for years. When the second voice returns, it pulls him into a struggle over human augmentation and who should control it.

Published as two five-book seasons, the story expands from Cain’s personal oddity into a conflict involving enhanced police, activists, scientists, and rival ideas about what people can—and should—become.
