About the book
Cain is out of shape, bored, stuck in a small town without a car, and accustomed to the critical voice that narrates his every move. Then a film crew arrives and a second voice—silent for years—starts talking.
That voice helps pull him into a much larger conflict involving superhuman police, mad scientists, anti-augmentation activists, and competing ideas about what humanity should become. This is the first of ten connected novellas.
