About the project
Today, this project might be called an influencer collab or traveling flash mob or something else along those lines, but back in the day we didn’t have modern social media, influencers, or much in the way of excuses to get together in the real world with our online friends.
This project was meant to bridge that gap, and on a practical level that meant driving across the United States with two other authors and online personalities to meet other people who were making a living online or organizing their work and lives in unusual ways. We also set up events so that anyone could come hang out and meet up with us and each other.
We combined these informal gatherings with writing and video produced and published from the road, marking an early (and successful! Everyone had a blast, and turnout was great) experiment in turning an online audience into a real-world community.
