About the project

I started Colin Is My Name after graduating from university and moving out to Los Angeles. I worked at a more established studio for a year, then started up my own thing, building my client base from scratch. Good word-of-mouth allowed me to grow pretty quickly, and I was able to work with some really wonderful (and interesting) clients, helping them identify what was at the core of their business and then translating those values into positioning, voice, messaging, copy, identity, and web design.

The studio became location-independent when I left Los Angeles in 2009, and until I became a full-time writer, I made my living by continuing to run my studio at a smaller scale from the road.

The name of the studio is a nod to both the word-of-mouth nature of my client relationships (“You need to meet Colin”), and to the personal branding work I did for myself and quite a few of my clients at a moment in which the mobile internet was still pretty new, and everyone was trying to figure out how to get their voice heard within that still emerging, but already cacophonous ecosystem.
